Job Title: Microsoft Security and Modern Work Engineer
Emergent Software is looking for a Microsoft Security & Modern Work Engineer who is a smart, passionate, and curious problem solver with demonstrated expertise using Microsoft’s Defender Security suite and other security products to solve business problems. In addition to security expertise, a qualified candidate is capable of assisting clients with other Microsoft’s Modern Workplace products such as M365, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Entra, and Intune on an as-needed basis. This 100% remote position is for self-starters with good communication skills, work ethic, and the ability to participate and lead projects using the Microsoft 365 Modern Work stack.

Microsoft Security & Modern Work Engineer Primary Duties
- Client Needs Analysis: Collaborate closely with clients to understand their business requirements, translating these into secure, productive Microsoft 365 solutions. Plan and execute implementations tailored to enhance collaboration and security.
- Security Solutions Design: Develop and deploy advanced security measures using Microsoft 365 Defender, focusing on endpoints, identity, cloud apps, and Office 365 environments to safeguard client data.
Vulnerability Assessments and Incident Response: Perform detailed security assessments to detect vulnerabilities, devise remediation strategies, and respond promptly to security breaches to minimize impact. - Security Configuration and Compliance: Set up and fine-tune Microsoft 365 security configurations and compliance protocols with tools like Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and Microsoft Information Protection, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
- Integration and Security Enhancement: Seamlessly integrate Microsoft Defender with Microsoft Sentinel to bolster security infrastructure, continuously updating and optimizing settings to enhance protection capabilities.
- Security Strategy Development and Training: Craft comprehensive security strategies aligned with client objectives. Lead educational sessions to promote security awareness and best practices among users.
- Microsoft 365 Solutions Implementation: Design and implement other Microsoft 365 solutions beyond the security space as schedule allows (eg Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange), focusing on optimal integration and adherence to best practices.
Microsoft Security & Modern Work Engineer Qualifications
- Experience implementing and managing Microsoft 365 product stack platform including but not limited to Entra ID, 365 Admin Center, SharePoint, Intune, etc.
- Proven success and comfort level leading projects from start to finish
- Strong technical and non-technical communication skills, both written and verbal
Comfortable speaking to clients - Ability to estimate tasks effectively and accurately
- Ability to gather and write strong requirements based on client’s business objectives
- Familiarity with common security frameworks/standards such as NIST, MITRE ATT&CK, and ISO 27001
Competence in at least three areas with advanced understanding and knowledge in at least one: - Microsoft 365 Entra ID Suite
- Microsoft Endpoint Management (Intune, Windows 365, Azure VDI)
- Microsoft Data Loss Prevention (Purview, Collaboration, Permissions)
- Microsoft Defender Suite (Identity, Endpoint, Office, Azure Sentinel)
- Microsoft 365 Copilot or Copilot Studio
Nice to Have Experience
- Previous consulting experience
- Working directly with customer teams of various sizes
- Microsoft Certifications (MD-102, MS-102, MS-721, MS-700, SC-400, SC-300, SC-200, AZ-500)
- Microsoft Sentinel experience
- Microsoft Power Automate or PowerApps experience
- Project management or project lead skills
- AI tool experience like Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, OpenAI, etc
